Context

Pg 1 Mar 6, 1952 10:45am Thurs, My Dearest Husband, I sat down for a few minutes while he is asleep so thought I'd start this anyway. our son fooled me and didn't wake up until 7:15 this morning so mother was fixing breakfast so she put his bottle on while I changed his pants and gave him his cod liver oil and by that time his bottle was ready so he started eating. I ate then and by that time he was finished so I put him in his teeterbabe after I dressed him and I got dressed and then went down and took his clothes off the line and brought them up and got things ready and by that time it was Pg 2 9:00 so I gave him his bath and put his green creeperalls, green shirt, white socks, and white shoes on him and also his bib that ML made him and give him some appricots and he was getting sleepy so got him to sleep but he woke up right away so got him back to sleep again. Mom had dampened his clothes while I put him to sleep so as soon as I laid him down I started ironing. He woke up again while I was ironing so mom got him back to sleep that time. I just finished his ironing before I started this so as you can see I have had a busy morning. He eats at 11:45 so only had a few minutes to go. Of Pg 3 course if heh keeps on sleeping he won't eat then but soon and imagine he will sleep much longer. When I picked him up to dress him this morning I held out my hands to him and he put his hands out to me finally and I brought him up to sitting position and put my hand behind his back and he reached out and grabbed the slats on his bed and sat up by himself holding on to the slats. Of course I had my hands right there in case he let go and only let him sit there for a minute or two and then as I said picked him up and dressed him. Probably in another month he'll try to pull himself up in bed. I have to wash out his undershirt and Pg 4 some creeperalls so think I will quit for now and see if I can get it done before he wakes up. 2:40 pm I didn't get his washing done as he woke up so I gave him his cereal and bottle and we ate lunch then. He didn't take all of his bottle so I put him in his teeterbabe and then started to fuss again so I gave him the rest of his bottle and he messed his pants. The postman didn't come till almost 2:00 and I got our Sunday letter postmarked the 3rd. I tried for half an hour to get him to sleep but he didn't go to sleep so I put him in his teeterbabe and got part of his Pg 5 washing done. I guess I'll do the rest later on. I'm going to try to do some knitting on my sweater tonight. If I don't get it done pretty soon I'll have to wait until next winter to wear it. I just made a cup of instant coffee as felt like I wanted something to drink. I still have to put his ironed clothes away yet so will stop pretty soon and do that. He also eats in half an hour. When he messed his pants a while ago it was rather funny. He grunted in his teeterbabe but couldn't get the job done so I put him on my bed and he had just started so I cleaned it off and he looked like he was going to do more Pg 6 so I rushed and grabbed a kleenex and got back just in time so I saved his diaper. I know I couldn't get the pot in time but even tho his diaper was wet it didn't get messed on so that helped. Our son is getting fussy and sleepy so I think I'll see if he will take his bottle now. He will probably go to sleep on it but I'll try. This poor letter sure gets cut up in pieces doesn't it? I guess it's ok as long as it keeps on getting longer, isn't it? It is after 9:00 and so I will try and finish this letter this time. I gave the baby his bottle and he went to sleep and slept almost 2 hours. I picked up things and gathered up his ironing into piles so it would be Pg 7 easier to put away and when he woke up I put it away and he played in bed while I did. He watched every move I made, I guess he wanted to be sure i got everything in the right drawer. I called ML while he was asleep and talked to her for a while> She asked if my package had come and I said no. She was getting ready to go to town so I didn't talk to her long. We ate supper a little bit later than usual and when we got the dishes done I made his formula and he watched me and then I gave him his custard and bottle. I put him in his teeterbabe and Aunt Mary called to thank for the birthday card and I talked to her for quite a while. Pg 8 I tried to put him to sleep and thought I succeeded but I can hear him moving around so know he is awake but I'm not going to stop this until he starts to fuss. I guess I'll answer your letter now while he is still good. As soon as I saw your paper I knew where they got as it as saw it one time when I was up there. I am almost thru with this package of air mail so don't know what you will hear from me on next. Probably more typing paper. I bet your cereal was good with cream on it. Would be rather expensive if you had to pay for it tho. Yes. I imagine the French church will be very interesting. I'm glad Pg 9 You will have the chance to go. I guess the woman didn't understand you in the bar because most people probably order whiskey. I guess the French girls look for wedding rings first so if they see one probably know the prospects in some cases aren't so good. Of course, some married men don't care. I had to stop and get our son to sleep again. I don't know if he will stay asleep or not but hope so as it is 10:00. I don't know what time it gets dark around here but is after 6:30 I think. I'll find out tomorrow. If you were here tonight I know that it would go farther than you just kissing me goodnight but I had better Pg 10 stop thinking about that or I won't go to sleep til much later. you going to sleep with that teddy bear was funny. For one night you had a sleeping companion anyway. Ha Ha. you are ahead of our little angel in that because so far he doesn't take a toy to be with him but I'm not sure which of you is the oldest. My darling, I wish we could take walks with you and one day we will. i forgot to take a picture of the snow but if it isn't to melted will take in tomorrow but is supposed to rain tonight. i guess for one reason I didn't get the picture is that I was a little bit busy today. I love you and miss you very much my dear and one more day has gone by which I and glad of. Love from both, Pumpkin and Charles Edward. envelope
