A letter from John Daggett to F.M. Gilham discussing the scarcity of baskets in the area. Vol 1 P. 183A
Dear Sir,
Your favor of 6th ???? came duly to hand referring to the basket business of Indians of this locality, and I regret to say that they are becoming very scarce, inasmuch as the "old timers" have nearly all passed from their "happy hunting grounds" leaving the manufacturing of the articles to the young ones who mostly reside on the Klamath ???? some distance ???? here, so I do not see how I can comply with your request, but will look around and see if any are to be obtained and inform you.
Please send me a couple copies of your basket list that came with your letter and I will forward them to parties I know of that might become purchasers.
Returning the letter you desired & wishing you good success ,
I am yours very truly
