Letter from the Mohonk Lodge to Harry George discussing items available from tribes in the area including a full-sized, used, beaded Cheyenne baby carrier they have available for $25.00.
December 23, 1908.
Mr. Harry L. George,
St. Joseph, Missouri.
Dear Sir; -
Your two letters of the 15th and 19th inst have been received and in reply will say that we have no new catalogue of our goods, nor have we any new Choctaw or Chetimache baskets. As you say this is a large tribe, and it is difficult to secure examples of all of their art, especially as so many of the branches have advanced far in civilization, and this is always fatal to the Indian’s native handicraft. We will, however, take this matter up with some of our field representatives, and communicate with you later on the subject.
Now as to the Cheyenne and Arapahoe baby carriers, will say that we have a good one of Cheyenne make at the present time. This one is full size and has been used several times. It is full beaded and is typical of the Cheyenne styles. The price is $22.00 F. O. B. cars at Weatherford, Oklahoma, or $25.00 delivers. As to the Cheyenne and Arapahoe makes, unless you are an expert, you would not be able to tell the difference in the work and designs as they are so similar.
Hoping to receive your orders for any of the goods we handle we remain
Sincerely yours,
The Mohonk Lodge,
