A single page typed letter from Emmett McLoughlin, Supt., Memorial Hospital, Phoenix, Az. to Mrs. Maryan C. Maier, dated August 1, 1955Context
Dear Mrs. Maier:
Under separate cover I am sending three copies of the book, "People's Padre", the one autographed to Mrs. Virginia Miller, the second to yourself, and the third merely autographed. Your check was ample to cover all three.
It was a pleasure to hear from you, even though I am sorry that I am not able to remember you. I allowed my wife to read your letter. She is at the present time the Record Librarian here at the hospital, and was at the time we were married.
You are correct that the nun that suggested that I see a psychiatrist was Sister Mary Veronica. She broke a leg some time after that, and several of the nurses told me it was divine retribution.
As you can well understand the Catholic Church is doing its best to see that my book is not widely publicized. Hence, we must spread it by word of mouth. I am enclosing a few fliers which I hope you can pass on to some of your friends.
I am also enclosing a picture of a new hospital that we hope to build. It will make the nuns even more jealous than they are now.
Very sincerely yours, Emmett McLoughlin, SuperintendentCollection
