Description

Vol II pg. 43B Letter from Grace Nicholson giving further information regarding her collection she is wishing to sell. January 23, 1910. Mr. Harry L. George, 201 Saxton Bank Building, St Joseph, Mo., Dear Sir: – I am inclosing typewritten copy of the articles I exhibited at the Seattle Exposition about which I wrote you. If you will take the Government Reports referred to you can get a splendid idea of the articles contained in the collection. I am in correspondence with one other party regarding the collection, at the present time, but have another letter from a collector in your state wanting to buy part of the collection. I have just written him that I did not care to break up the collection, and have not quoted him a price on the entire collection, thinking I would wait until you had come to some decision regarding the collection. It surely is a great bargain and all good old material, the bulk of it could not be dupolicated at any price. The duplicate pieces are varieties very few of them exact duplicates. A collector from London, England, has just been here and bought a large number of my old Alaskan Indian Rattles and other articles. There seems to be quite a demand for the old Alaskan specimens just now. Please preserve this list for me because if you do not wish the collection I wish to send it to other parties immediately. I am at work on your Basket list and will be able to report on same sometime next week. I am glad that you saw the Merriam Collection in Washington. I have the pleasure of selling Dr. Merriam quite a number of good, old Baskets, and, altho he has done a great deal of field work and collected a great many Baskets personally, he is always in the market for anything collected by others which will add to his present collection. Of course he aims to collect specimens showing all the weaves, all the ceremonial designs and baskets made from various materials, also baskets for all uses. This gives him an unlimited field to work on. Very truly yours, Grace Nicholson Cases and space[?]
