Letter sent to Mr and Mrs B. E. McMachen Postmarked San Francisco, CA May3,1943, 2 postal stamps, contains church bulletinContext
Pg 1 Have NJ give these to Rev Maybe 2nd May, Dear Mom, Dad and NJ Well I will try to get this mailed to San Francisco by a fellow who has a pass. So I'll try to tell you a few things. No more X & O as we are not allowed to put them in letters. Can't tell you much except I am at Camp Stoneman Pittsburg Calif getting ready to leave on overseas duty for at least duty in a far away country. However don't worry and tell May if she and you don't get a letter from me for a week at least that I have started on my way. Don't
Pg 2 know when we'll leave but it'll be soon I guess. We were issued about $100 of new clothes and from the looks of things will be equipped for jungle fighting. NJ don't expect a separate letter as i won't have the time of stationary to do so. Wish I could. I'll pick up something for you all over seas and I hope you get it. Did you get my paper started APO # 8791 C/o postmaster San Francisco Calif. Call May and find out if she got my APO no. If not, give it to her.
Pg 3 Loafed all day today and read and played cards. That's all we have to do so I am afraid I'll get fat loafing. Had cut down on the amount of food that I eat as I am not so hungry when I don't work. Will send a few items home soon look for them. Mom do you think May will wait for me? Does she love me enough to do so do you think? Gee, I sure hope so because I love her so damn much. When you receive a card that I have arrived ok let the NP know so they can put it in the stars and stripes.
Pg 4 Call Betty Farrell and tell her I am on my way over so don't have the time to drop her a line. Tell her that I'll do so at my first chance. Tell her to write me at my APO and I'll get it. Well it's getting time for Jack to go so I'll let him take this out with him. Keep you chins up and Dad thanks for the few lines every day. It helps alot. Went to church and head a wonderful sermon. Time to quit so good night Love and Kisses Donald. PS Have *illegible* when I get over but you'll know that I think of them.
