I am a graduate of High School, Business College and had one yea of Junior College. I have had two In-Service Training Courses held by the American Association of Medical Record Liberians, one in Kansas City, Mo. in February 1947, the other in St Louis in June, 1948.
I successfully passed the examination for Registration sponsored by the American Association of Medical Record Librarians in 1935, during the Annual Convention in San Francisco.
During 1949 and 1950 I have been serving ads President of the Western Missouri Association of Medical Record Librarians and was sent as their Delegate to the National Convention of M. R. L. in Cleveland, Ohio, in September, 1949.
I am a Active Member of the Soroptimist Club of St. Joseph, a classified business Women's service club with the classification of Medical Record Librarian, and am at present Recording Secretary to this Club.
In February, 1950, I will graduate from the Dale Carnegie Course in Public Speaking and Human Relations, a 17-week course of 2 class sessions per week.
My experience in Medical Record Librarian work covers a period of over 21 years in the medical institutions of various types. That experience has given me a wide knowledge of medical terminology, a good understanding of laboratory and x-ray examinations and the meaning of the results of these procedures, as well as General Surgery, Internal Medicine and Neuropsychiatry.
In November, 1949, I started a cross index of Diseases and Operations according to the Standard Nomenclature and have been successful in accomplishing this project with the cooperation of a Record Committee. All actual working out of plans have been of my own volition.
Prior to that time I established an Office for the Surgical Service and acted as Secretary in that Office for one year. Since taking over the cross indexing, I have supervised the work in that office. Monthly and Annual reports of the Surgical Service have been and still are my duties. My experience also affords me the ability to direct and advise the medical secretaries, desk clerks, file clerks and various other employees numbering from 10 to 15 in this office.
I have assisted 3 of the Doctors at this Clinic in obtaining their respective American Board Certifications, namely, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology , and Orthopedic Surgery. At a previous employment I assisted a Radiologist in his American Board Certification. A Urologist is preparing for his boards and I have been asked to assist in the preparation and research of his case histories.
Of 17 Doctors in my present employment, I have assisted 11 in the writing and publication of medical papers during a period of 3 years. These covered Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Ear, Nose and Throat, Urology and Anesthesia. While working at the State Hospital I also familiarized myself with Psychiatry, and Neurology in the writing and studying of those case histories.
Our Clinic has a Medical Library and within a few months, I expect to have this library cataloged and a lending service established, ad well as research material available.
(Hand written at the bottom)
By combining my many years of continued study gives me understanding and experience and knowledge in the Medical Records Library work with my instructions and practice in Human Relations and Public Speaking.Lexicon
