Scope and Content

A two-sided short letter on personalized notepad paper "From the desk of - DR. WILBUR MCDONALD" in red ink to Mrs Bottermuller, dated Thursday 22 April 1976. There is a note written on the bottom of the back of the page from her daughter, Mrs August Schaefer, Rhineland, Missouri (no date).

Context

Dear Mrs Bottermuller, Tuesday noon at the St. Joseph Rotary Club lunch I met your ex-bürgermeister, Mr C. M. Bossman, who was visiting here. I inquired about you and August, amd was told that August was seriously ill in a Hospital in St. Louis. Please extend to him my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. I hope that you remain well. The "Virginia Seedling" grapes that I obtained from August, continue to produce well, but the wine I make from them leaves a lot to be desired. I haven't been in Hermann for over 10 years, but hope to get there in the near future - and I'll see you then - My love to you both Sincerely, ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ (The reply at the bottom of the page) We found this letter among my mothers keepsakes. Don't know if you are aware that Sonny (August) Bottermuller (my stepfather) died Oct. 11, 1976 abd mother died suddenly in her sleep on March 10, 1977. She was really better than we've seen her for several years, just went to bed and was dead the next morning. Her daughter Mrs. August Schaefer
