Dear Paul:
Thank you and your father-in-law for spending the afternoon showing me your vineyard on the 18th of December. I never get tired of looking at grapes, or tasting wine. It is a wonderful hobby.
Sorry for the delay, but I have been . . to ski in Aspen; . . . . ; then . . . the last few days of the hunting season . . . . a good cold put me in bed for four days. I am just now beginning to catch up on my paper work, and correspondence.
This year's subscription to "The American Journal of Enology & Viticulture" should be coming to you soon with my compliments. . . . . there are many articles concerned with growing of grapes, grafting, pruning, etc. . . It certainly will keep you up to date as to what is going on around the world.
Instead of writing a long letter, . . . . .I will copy ( a letter from Gary L. Bertrand), and my reply which details most of my experimentation up through 1974. . . . . . . I do agree with Mr. Bertrand in that the problem of making good wine in Missouri boils down to . . . selecting vinifera grape varieties that can be grown commercially in Missouri, . . .
You should also become a member of the New York State Fruit Testing Cooperative Association, . . . Mr Bennett . . . will be glad to accept your application. . . Every year they put out a new directory of fruit . . . It is an excellent source of information, mostly on the grapes that are grown in the Eastern United States.
Enclosed is an article by Philip Wagner, . . . He is probably the best authority on hybrid grapes in the U. S.
