Context

Dear Doctor: It is nearing time to start harvesting the grapes, and I am wondering if you have anything which might be of interest to you this year. If so, I would be glad to save them for you. Frankly, the hailstorm on May 19th left us in quite a mess, and it is doubtful whether or not I could get as much as 1.5 bushels off on any one variety. The only exception would be Delaware, as we have more plants of this variety. If you are interested in the fruit from any of our varieties, I would appreciate hearing from you soon. Better yet, it would be a pleasure to have you drop over for a first hand look if you can get away for several hours. I can make myself available on rather short notice. Sincerely, _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dear Mr. Abmeyer: Just a note to thank you for your kindness in taking me through the grapes last Tues. morning. It is educational to me and the more I can learn about grapes the better. I now know what 2,4,D damage looks like. You have so many varieties of grapes that I don't see how you keep from being confused. Frankly, I am confused on the few varieties that I have. Just so you won't forget, if you do have a bushel and a half of Stuben, Sheridan, Buffalo, Alden and Delaware, I could make a varietal batch of wine from each of these. If you have a half bushel or bushel of the Delicatessen I would like to try to make a batch of wine from that grape, possibly is you could fill it out from the Baco #1 to a bushel and a half, or with some other wine type grape that does not have the foxy flavor. I will be out of town on Aug. 23,24,25th and 26th, but I will be glad to pick up the grapes at any other time whenever you tell me that they are ready. Thank you again. Sincerely, Er
