Context

My dear Sister You complain of not having any letters from home, I have written to Sis and to Pap both, and Mr. H has written to you twice that I think I know of. Ma told me to tell both Pap and Sis that she wanted to write but it hurts her so she can't do it. - She tells Sis if she finds that she can spare two of the boys she might just as well send them in the wishes. They could all come now I know I do think the time will come long until Sis comes. Ella Grill arrived here yesterday morning from Denver. It was quite a surprise to us. She has come to make a short visit here and with the Blakemores. She even changed, more quiet and sedate than I ever saw her. You know she lost her father about one year ago; She told Ma that she had all her Mother's business to attend to. She says the Hughes family, Bela's have all quit going to the Catholic Church and attend the Episcopal. Jesse was ordained by an Episcopal minister_ Ella left D_ last Monday night- said she saw Dana Sunday afternoon. I wrote to Dana as soon as we received the paper from Nashville, also to Dock and Jimmie. Ella said L_ had not received any letter when she left - Jack Hughes was in London the last news Laura had from him. Your little folks are all well, with the exception of Jeff, je has been slightly indisposed since night before last. The effects of cold Dr says and too much fries day before yesterday for dinner. I brought him upstairs to sleep . . . - sleep so sound - I will send you a letter he said he wrote to you. I asked him what he told you, he replied "I told Mamma we was all good chillens" He and Elvie and Madge are all up in my room now playing together, don't feel uneasy about him he has never been off his feet and Dr. takes a look at him every time he comes. I have never laid eyes on Mrs Morgan since you left, dont know whether she has heard of this horrible . . have been called upon to bear or not, think she surely would have up if she had as she always liked both - Sis and Mr. Nash - Ella tells me Martie Boone has been a nun for a year. Left here for Chicago last March to take the black veil, her friends are very much distressed about it they could not very well have expected anything else. - I will have to stop a minute to settle a fur between Madge & Elvie, Ella was confirmed in the Episcopal Church last April, she says was the last wish her father ever made of her that she would not become a Catholic - Mr. Armstrong's wedding cards are out. I received one last Thursday, he was married on that day in New York City - Their cards are quite stylish - They have done nothing over there but paint and furbish up the house since he left. - I suppose I will have to make the bride a visit when she arrives as she is so close by - I don't know when they are coming home, not before mid-week I understand. Mr. Hosea has gone to the lake with Mr. Baillie hunting will be back this evening. - It is near Supper time and I will have to close. Tell Pap to write often to Ma as she dont like to feel she is not thought of. Dr. fixed your Aquarium all up this morning, dressed it now with the new center piece you have Eleven fish and a Lizard the children call it gizzard. Mr. Hosea says it is the ugliest thing he ever saw he hopes something will eat it up - Marge & Jeff are . . . at Dicks Cage making him . . . Jeff says he is an old preacher kind. Well I cant say anything more Give my very best love to Sis , Pap and all the children - love to Mrs C_ My regards to Grill Nash if he is still there and to Mr. Wheeler - Also Dr. Sheff - Dear dear is I wish I could help lighten her burden, but I know there is none but God can heal a sorrow like hers and may his loving arms forever surround her and her dear children is the prayer of her & your Sister- Ed.
