Context

Dear True: Thank you for the article on "Wining and Dining" which was an excellent resume of th wine growing efforts in the area around Washington, and to include New York State. I have never met Dr. George Hamilton Mowbray, but I did spend an afternoon with Philip Waggoner at the Boordy Vineyards, at Richwood, Maryland. I wish we had a few fellows here in Missouri like Waggoner, and Dr. Konstintin Frank to spur viticulture. I am sure that the Ozark Area is as well suited to grape growing as is Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York. Gradually there are a few sparks of enlightenment, as more and more amateur enologists began to plant their vineyards in Southern Missouri. As you remember I had the Number 2 license for the making of domestic wine in . . Missouri for years. . . . this past year it is Number 14. . . . I know there are others throughout the state that are interested, and are experimenting. As yet there is no definite meeting ground, . . or any organization where we could meet, and share our experiences. . . . although with the over production of wine in California . . . , anyone who is thinking of making wine for profit in any of these marginal areas must have a hole in their head. Sorry we missed you while you were here, and thank you for your offer of a bed in Washington. I still feel that Washington is a good place to stay away from. Sincerely,
