Context

Dear Douglas: Eleanor and I wish to express our appreciation to and Mary for a wonderful afternoon Friday the 14th of October. Nothing could have pleased me more than seeing he Hanzell Vineyards and Winery. I probably acted like a begger with his nose to the window pane, but I had never seen such a modern up to date and spotless winery. Saturday, the 15th, we spent in Napa Valley, having good visits with Kenneth Dills and Peter Mondavi at Krug, and Maynard Monahan at Bealeau Vineyard. Englenook was closed and we didn't get to visit with George Dueur. The vineyards didn't seem the same since its takeover by Petri. On Monday, the 17th, I spent the day at Davis, spending most of the morning with James A. Cook, and the afternoon with Dr. Olmo. I had a ball; - learned more in one day than I have for years. The following day I went south to Almaden and Paul Masson. At Paul Masson's I talked them out of a riddling board which they don't use anymore, so now I can make sparkling type wine without tilting the cases up against the wall. Eleanor and I wish to thank you and Mary for your kindness to a couple of Missouri Mud Vintners. Sincerely,
