Copy of a letter on onion skin paper, from Wilbur P. McDonald to Jim Howe in Walnut Creek, California, dated March 23, 1970. The letters COPY in red ink are printed diagonally across the page.Context
Dear Jim:
Thank you for the bulletin of "The Society of Medical Friends of Wine", and I have read every word of it. My only wish is that I lived in a community of sufficient size to support such an organization, but the best we can do around here is the International Wine and Food Society of London with a branch in Kansas City. Our last dinner in Kansas City at the Indian Hills Country Club was quite a disappointment. The good was not outstanding, one of the white wines were maderized, and we had Great Western pink champagne with our dessert which was a new low.
Enclosed is a small item which appeared in the News-Press, sorry you're having family problems, and I hope you recover all of the articles.
All of my vines are now trimmed and awaiting a little warm weather before they start labors for what I hope will be a vintage crop. Last fall I laid down five vines Of Ruby Cabernet that I had grafted on Baco #1 roots, covering them with blankets and plastic. So far I have not removed them from their winter bed, hope they made it through the winter, because if they did I may have sufficient grapes to make a five gallon batch of Ruby Cabernet here in Missouri. Wouldn't that be something.
Sincerely,Lexicon
