A copy of a letter, on onion skin paper, from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., to Mr. William Wright, Supervisor, Dept. of Liquor Control, Jefferson City, Mo., dated Jan. 19, 1970. The letters COPY in red ink are printed down the left hand side of the page.Context
Dear Mr. Wright:
Last summer I raised sufficient grapes to make the following:
5 Gal. Ravat 262
5 Gal. Couderc 7120
5 Gal. Seyve Villard 5-276
5 Gal. Missouri Reisling
1/2 Ravat 262
5 Gal. Ruby Cabernet
1/2 Delaware
The Seyve Villard 5-276 is turning out very well and will develop into an acceptable white wine, I believe.
The Ruby Cabernet and Delaware at this stage is a nice light rose with a distinct fruitiness. With the addition of a little sugar, I believe it too will be acceptable.
The Missouri Reisling and Ravat 262 is foxey; does not have a pleasing aroma and seems rather thin.
The Couderc 7120 is very foxey, does not have a good nose and will have to be sweetened considerably or carbonated, or both, to be acceptable.
The Ravat 262 is probably the worst, being extremely foxey and unpleasant in odor.
Will you please keep me in mind when the licenses are issued this spring so that I may regain my No. 2 status in the "pecking order". Mr. Wepprich always had licence No. 1, and for years I had license No. 2, but last year I seem to have been demoted to No. 3.
Sincerely,Lexicon
