Context

Dear Jim: Eleanor and I wish to thank you again for your kindness to us while we were in San Francisco. . . . . I know the comments would all be bad, but I wanted to hear them anyway. The evening of wine tasting at the Fairmount will long be remembered. . . . I hope that you were not just playing off and being overly kind to us by not going yourself, and by giving us your tickets. It was a surprise to me that during the wine tasting I ran on to my old friend "The Foxy Flavor". . . . The Hermitage 1961 from the National Distillers Products Co. I thought was also a little Foxy, as well as the Chateau Oliver 1957. Tell me where I am wrong. We enjoyed our trip up to the vineyards; had a wonderful time talking with Peter Mondavi at Krug and he could not have been more kind. He tasted my wine, . . . . .He told me to only press the grapes gently, then drain off the juice and use that to make a much lighter wine without the harsh taste. He blended some sweet sauterre into my white wine, disguising the foxy taste somewhat and making it "almost acceptable". We did not get to meet John Daniel, Jr. at Englenook, but we did meet Mr. Bartlett who was very kind, and of course George Duer. . . . . It was a very pleasant afternoon. Our entire trip to San Francisco this time was full of pleasant surprises and fun for which we have you to thank. Eleanor sends her love to Mia and I hope you have recovered sufficiently to taste some of my samples, however I hope they don't give you indigestion again. Sincerely,
