Context

Dear Larry, It was a pleasure to talk with you on the evening of 22 June in Independence, MO., and I am sorry you were worn out from your travels, so that you could not come to St. Joseph. Thought you might like a copy of a recent letter to Mr Leon Adams, which recounts the recent history of viticulture and viniculture in Northwest Missouri, at least north of Weston. In pre-prohibition days, there were seven wineries in St. Joseph. In Independence, you asked me if I had ever kept any records of my vineyard, and I replied -No-, However, Mr Erwin Abmeyer, of Wathena, Kansas, who is in charge of the Fruit Experimental Station in N. W. Kansas, for the Kansas State University, has kept meticulous records of his plantings (usually six vines of each variety) and production. I am sure this information would be available by writing him. He is a fine gentleman. In Mr. Adams last letter, he stated, "The state is fortunate to have Bruce Zoecklin and Larry Lockshin helping growers to improve their grapes and their wines." Sincerely, enc. 7
