A copy of a letter, on onion skin paper, from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., to Dr. Ardath H. Emmons, Vice President for Research, University of Missouri, Dolumbia, Missouri, dated February 6, 1973. The letters COPY in red ink are down the left hand side of the paper.Context
Dear Dr. Emmons:
For the past 18 years I have been interested in growing grapes and in the production of a varietal wine from them. Northwest Missouri is not a hospitable climate for the propagation of "Viniferas". I am sure that if research were undertaken regarding day length, temperature and sunshine in southern Missouri there would be areas were wine grapes could be grown, and thus an old Missouri industry could be revived.
It was interesting to read the article "Research Program Benefits Missourians" in the January 1973 issue of the University of Missouri "Report", but there was certainly no mention of research on grapes by the Agriculture Department.
To bad that such potential is going to waste.
Sincerely,Lexicon
