Scope and Content

A copy of a letter, on onion skin paper, from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., to H. P. Olmo, Professor of Viticulture, University of California, Davis, dated January 18, 1974. The letters COPY in red ink are down the left hand side of the paper.

Context

Dear Dr. Olmo: Several of my friends from so far away as New York, sent me copies of the article in last Friday's Wall Street Journal, giving you the recognition you so richly deserve. I am happy for you, and it is a pleasure to see you receiving such accolade for your work. Here in St. Joseph, the T8-43 and Sereksia cuttings grew about a foot to sixteen inches during the summer, but this winter they are having a rough time. We had sixteen days of January the temperature below freezing , and on the 12th of January the temperature got to twenty-five degrees below zero. The young vines do have about 10 inches of snow cover, but no other protection so we will wait until spring, and see how the Russians fair. Again, I am happy for you. Sincerely
