A hand written letter in blue ink from Mrs. Bottermuller on Bottermuller House, Hermann, MO letterhead, to Dr. McDonald. There is no date on the letter only 'Sunday'.Context
Dear Dr. McDonald:
Was so glad to hear from you again. We had just talked of you when the Wine Season comes up here. Unfortunately we were both in the hospital at wine making time so my grandchildren made the wine & did a good job. We were in a car wreck August 15th, I was in up here in our hospital from Aug 15th to Sept. 13th. I had 8 crushed ribs. Sonny was rushed to Boone Co. hospital in Columbia with a crushed bone in his leg & a compound fracture is his wrist. He was up there 11 days & then brought here to our hospital til Oct 11th. We stayed at my daughters til Nov. 3rd when we came home. I was only able to cook for us for quite some time. However Sonny's arm and leg are just fine but on March 25th we took him back up here & they x-rayed him on the 26th. He had a malignant tumor on his prostrate gland & his kidneys were blocked & he was very sick that night. They called me at 5 o'clock and at 9 o'clock they operated on him to drain his kidneys or rather bladder on the side. They couldn't operate til he responded to treatment and had he not he would had not be here. The Dr. sent him to St. Johns Mercy in St. Louis April 9th and he came home Wed. He feels good mow and we are hoping he will get back to normal procedure again. They treated him through his veins. It is a cold gloomy day here today. Its been so nice & my garden is so pretty. We only have a small one here now. We do hope you can get down to see us. Mr. Crandall came to see us several times. He says he knows you, I dont have his address or I would write him. His wife was state Eagle aux. president several years ago. So long for now & thanks again for your nice note.Lexicon
