Context

Dear Dr. McDonald: VITICULTURE AND ENOLOGY DELEGATION You recently received a letter from Dr. C. S. Ough, Professor of Enology at the University of California at Davis, inviting you to become a member of his delegation to Portugal and Spain in April, which will travel under the auspices of the Citizen Ambassador Program. We hope you can arrange your schedule to participate in the project. The purpose of my letter is to provide you with the registration materials for joining the team. The letter you received from Dr. Ough explained the activities that are being planned for the delegation. As he mentioned the program includes a series of briefings; meetings; informal discussion sessions.; . . . , . . . , . . . , in the major wine-producing regions of both countries; . . . ; and social functions with your colleagues. We trust that you will find this concept of overseas contact interesting . . . . and maintaining international relationships. The success of any Citizen Ambassador Program project is due, . . ., to the individual delegates themselves; the make-up of this delegation will have a direct impact on the professional benefits derived by each team member. . . . , the ability and willingness to contribute on a people-to-people level are also of considerable importance. The roots of the Citizen Ambassador Program grew from the People to People effort . . . Eisenhower believed that "people to people" communication . . . .would contribute to world peace in a way that government-to-government communication could not. . . . . , we believe we are carrying on . . . (his) idea that "peaceful relations between nations require understanding and mutual respect between individuals." The enclosed registration form for membership in the delegation should be completed and returned to us with your deposit as soon as possible. . . . . Dr. Ough and I hope you can join the delegation. If you have any questions, please call . . . . . Sincerely, Enclosure cc: Dr. C. S. Ough Delegation Leader.
