A letter to Wilbur P. McDonald, M. d. from Desmond D. Dolan, Regional Coordinator, NE-9 on letterhead from the New York Agricultural Experiment Station, Cornell University, Geneva, New York, dated September 26, 1956.Context
September 26, 1956
Dear Dr. McDonald:
Mr. Henry O. Bennett has passed on to me the honeydew seeds accompanying your letter of September 17. I have charge of the Regnal Plant Introduction Station, Geneva, where we evaluate and propagate all plant introductions. On pages 35 an 35 of the enclosed 1956 catalog, please notice that we listed four melons of the botanical variety Cucumis melo v. inodorus, which includes the honeydews. Seeds of any of these can be sent to you on request and I particularly recommend P. I. 224770 from Africa, which did very well at Geneva.
If your melon proves adapted, I will have a P. I. number assigned to it and will send you the number.
The Regional Plant Introduction Station for the North Central Region, which includes Missouri, is at Ames, Iowa and is under the supervision of Dr. Max M. Hoover. A copy of this letter is being sent to Dr. Hoover so he will know of your interest.
Yours very truly,
Desmond D. Dolan, Regional Coordinator,Lexicon
