Scope and Content

Copies of two letters on onion skin paper, from W. H. Muchnic (aka Bill). One to Jim Howe in Walnut Creek, California, dated Oct,. 6, 1960 with a cc to Dr. Wilbur McDonald. The other to Dr. Wilbur McDonald also dated Oct. 6, 1960.

Context

Dear Jim: Dr. and Mrs Wilbur McDonald (Vib and Eleanor), are close friends of mine from Saint Joseph, Missouri. I have known them for many years. Recently, Dr. McDonald became seriously interested in grapes and wine making, and is actually taking a vacation with his wife on the West Coast, to follow up and learn all he can about he art and science of grapes, the making of good wine, and anything else that goes with this program. I took the liberty of telling the McDonalds that you were a real expert in all phases of wine processing, and would be happy to see them, sometime during their stay in the Bay area. I have given them your address, and told them to be sure and call you when they reach San Francisco. They will be staying, initially, at the Fairmont Hotel, starting Sunday, the 9th. The last time I remember visiting with you at any length was at the French Club one evening, when you brought in a bottle of your own wine to be sampled by the experts. I hope all is well with you and also hope you will have a few spare minutes to spend with the McDonalds. My very best personal regards! Sincerely, WHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Vib: As we discussed last night, I am enclosing a copy of a letter I mailed today to Jim Howe. I know you will find him a most fascinating individual, particularly in the field of wine making, testing, growing, etc. I hope you and Eleanor have a wonderful trip, and get a big kick out of your investigation. Please let me now how you get along with Jim - if you see him. Best regards, Bill
