Scope and Content

A letter from Charles Fournier, President, Gold Deal Vineyards, Hammondsport, N. Y. to Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., dated June 26, 1961. The letterhead is the Vineyard information and includes a seal in the middle of its name with the insignia 'since 1865', it is typed on embossed paper.

Context

Dear Doctor McDonald: Iam awfully sorry to hear that the Chardonnay cuttings arrived in bad shape. We have had a lot of difficulty with the Post Office during the last year and with the Express. Ten days in transit is outrageous. Why don't you get in contact with us earlier next year in order that they may be shipped when the weather is still cool. We will send some to you again. Dr. Frank and I were very interested by the results in your vineyard this past winter. The Elvira grape makes a fairly nice wine when they can be picked very ripe, as the wine has a tendency to be acid otherwise. Blended with Delaware wine and Catawba wine, it makes a nice New York State type champagne. Best regards. Cordially yours,
