Scope and Content

Copy of a letter, on onion skin paper, from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., to Mr. Peter Mondavi, c/o Krug Wineries, Helena, California Rock Port, Mo., dated November 13, 1963. The letters COPY in red ink are down the left hand side of the page.

Context

Dear Mr. Mondavi: Thank you very much for your kindness to my wife, Eleanor and me, on the afternoon of Oct. 25th. We realized that you were very busy, being in the middle of your harvest and we appreciate the time you took to chat with us about grapes and wines. It is my hobby to try and grow the grapes that can be grown and fruited in Northwest Missouri to the end of making a varietal wine from them. To my knowledge no one has made any effort to do so. As I told you while IN California, I do have several French Hybrids that are fruiting regularly and from which I am trying to make wine. Of course the two samples brought you, the Seyve-Villiard #5276 and the Coudarc #7120 did not make a very potable wine. However, I intend to keep trying and I enjoy the work. Thank you again for your information and courtesy. Sincerely,
