A copy of a letter on onion skin paper from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D. to Mr. Phillip Wagner, Broody Vineyard, Riderwood, Maryland, March 7, 1966. The letters COPY in red ink are down the left hand side of the page.Context
Dear Mr. Wagner:
Thank you for your hospitality and the information you gave me the afternoon of Feb. 22nd. After tasting your wines I am convinced that I will never be able to make acceptable wine from my Stuben, Sherridan, Buffalo, Alden, Delaware, Catawaba, Elvira and Delacatessen Grapes. I now have ten vines of each . . . which I intend to replace with hybrids.
Realizing that this is late in the spring for placing orders . . . , I would appreciate you sending me ten of any variety that you think would do well in Missouri. I have ten vines each of Siebel 10868, Siebel 5279, Foch, and Baco #1 in good condition . . . (and) two vines of Seyve-Villard 5276 which have survived, but would be glad to try ten more. If you have any Ruby Cabernet vines or any . . .Viniferas I would like to try a few here in Northwest Missouri.
Was the good wine that I tasted in your cellar made from the Millot, and if so, I certainly would like a start, if at all available.
If the new edition of "A Wine Growers Guide" is available, please send me a copy.
Sincerely,Lexicon
