Scope and Content

A copy of a letter on onion skin paper from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., to Mrs. James Held, Stone Hill Winery, Hermann, Mo. dated October 21,1969. The letters COPY in red ink are down the left hand side of the paper.

Context

Dear Mrs. Held: It was a pleasure to talk to another enologist, even for a short period, last Sunday afternoon. Sorry I didn't have more time, and I am sorry that Mr. Held was not there. Some day in the future I'll take the time to come and see your entire operation. The last time I was through those cellars was about six years ago when they were still full of Mushrooms, or has it been nine years? All I am tying to do here in Northwest Missouri is to grow the grapes that be grown here in this climate, and make a small varietal batch of wine from them. Who knows but what there might be a grape suitable for wine production in Northwest Missouri, but so far I have not produced anything that I would be real proud of. It was good to see the old winery back to its original purpose. Sincerely
