A copy of a letter on onion skin paper from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., to Dr. H. P. Olmo, Professor of Viticulture, University of California, Davis, dated October 18,1972. The letters COPY in red ink are down the left hand side of the paper.Context
Dear Dr. Olmo:
Thank you for your time and consideration on Monday the 2nd of October. Please keep my name on your list for any grape you might think would be winter hardy in northwest Missouri.
As it takes about 60 lbs of grapes for a 5 gallon varietal batch of wine. I need 6 or more cuttings of each variety to plant in my vineyard. As I think I told you I was successful in obtaining 52 lbs of grapes from 8 Ruby Cabernet vines that I have grafted on to Baco #1 roots, of course these had to be laid down in the winter. I am really looking for a grape, a Vinifera that will survive here in northwest Missouri, without putting it to bed.
Don't forget to send me some "sereksia" next spring, and any others you might think would survive. Thank you again for our kindness.
