Dear Sir:
Being a member of the New York State Fruit Testing Cooperation Association, I am trying to grow several types of French Hybrid Grapes on Loess soil here in Missouri. Do you have any information on the subject that would be of value to me? Any information, books, pamphlets, etc., on viticulture and viniculture would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D

Dear Dr. McDonald:
I have your letter dated January 26, 1959, requesting information on viticulture. Unfortunately, we have no information and practically no experience in growing the French hybrid grapes. As you possibly know, we produce the vinifera variations almost exclusively, under climatic conditions which might be called Mediterranean; that is, warm and dry in the summer and only mildly cold and wet in the winter. I don't believe that any of the publications available here would be of much value to you.
May I suggest as references, however, the text "Table Wines" published by the University of California Press in 1951 and authored by M. A. Amerine and M. A. Joslyn; and California Experiment Station Circular 116, "Grape Growing in California". This latter circular is out of print and no longer available for distribution. You might be able to borrow a copy, however, through your State University.
Sincerely,
A. N. Kasimatis, Extension ViticulturistLexicon
