A copy of a letter on onion skin paper from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., to Keith Barbero, State Representative, 54th District, Florissant, Missouri, dated January 16, 1974. The letters COPY in red ink are down the left hand side of the paper.Context
Dea Mr. Barbero:
You are restoring my faith in our Representatives. The present Missouri liquor laws are antiquated, and House Bill No. 740 is a good step in the right direction.
For 17 years I have been trying t grow French hybrid grape and viniferas here in Northwest Missouri in order to make a decent dry wine. It took about 3 years for me to become "legal", when I was finally granted the #2 license to produce domestic wine in the State of Missouri. Since then the regulations have changed on numerous occasions due to bureaucratic edict, . . . Your House Bill No .740 would eliminate that difficulty.
With such a change in the State Law as you purpose, possibly the University of Missouri would feel free to experiment with the growing of grapes in Southern Missouri, where I am sure that some of the newer hybrids and viniferas can be raised. Wine making should become a profitable enterprises, thus adding to our state resources.
Thank you for informing me of this action, and please keep me posted.
