A copy of a letter, on onion skin paper, from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D. to Mr. Nicholas Reinprecht, Eisenstadt, Bergenland, Austria, dated December 18,1968. The letters COPY, in red ink are printed down the left hand side of the page.Context
Dear Mr. Reinprecht :
Your good letter of the 5th of December 1968, telling of the shipment of 10 bottles of "Ruster Burgunder" on the 27th of November has made this Christmas Season a Joyous one.
Enclosed is my personal check in the sum of twenty-five American dollars which I believe will pay the bill with a little to spare. The extra change from the $25.00 is for Eve to spend on a present for herself as my gift to her for Christmas.
Glad to hear that you had a good harvest this year as the previous letter told of too much rain. I was worried that the weather in Austria had been like the weather in France, not very good for the wine. I'm happy this was a good vintage.
Mr. Recher of Chicago, will notify me as soon as he receives the shipment, and will then ship it to me in Missouri after I obtain a permit from the Dept. of Liquor Control here in Missouri. I hope everything works smoothly because if it is not too much red tape, I would appreciate receiving more wine by this same route.
Why is it that only 10 bottles of "Ruster Burgunder" can be shipped? Is it because of a regulation in Austria or a regulation in Bergenland, or is it because you limit each customer to 10 bottles due to a shortage of wine?
Again I thank you for your kindness in shipping the wine and I will let you know when it arrives. A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and Eve.
Sincerely,
Enc.Lexicon
