Scope and Content

A copy of a letter, on onion skin paper, from Wilbur P. McDonald, M. D., to Mr. Nicholas Reinprecht, Eisenstadt, Austria, dated February 17, 1969. The letters COPY in red ink are printed down the left hand side of the page.

Context

Dear Mr. Reinprecht : The ten bottles of "Ruster Burgunder" you shipped me on the 27th of November, arrived in Chicago at the office of D. Recher & Co. about Jan. 15th. It was found that one bottle had been crushed against the side of the box; the nine remining bottles were intact. The box was then shipped to me, arriving in St. Joseph about Jan. 23rd, with no further damage. The nine good bottles of "Ruster Burgunder" 1967, are now resting quietly in my basement recovering from their journey. I will allow them to rest a few months before tasting. How many years after vintage does it take a good "Ruster Burgunder" to mature? How long is their life, and when is the best time for drinking, after one or two years, or should the wine be allowed to mature five or ten years? I am sorry to hear that you have lost the contract for the wine hall with Dr. Paul Esterhauzey. It was most pleasant and picturesque. With a better grape harvest this year and more wine, maybe you can ship me some of your excess. I still do not understand why only 10 bottles can be shipped. Why not ten cases? Hope you had a good Christmas and that the New Year will bring you happiness. Sincerely,
