Description

Letter from Grace Nicholson to Harry George in which she describes baskets she has in stock. Vol II pg. 46D 13th of November, 1910. Mr. Harry L. George, 201 Saxton Bank Bldg., St Joseph, Mo., Dear Sir: – In reply to your favor of Nov. 2nd. Would state that out of my stock of over 3400 Baskets, I surely feel that I have many individual Baskets which you should have in your collection, and that I can furnish nearly everything which you will need to perfect your collection. I await your new list and will give the matter attention as soon as it is received. My buyer, Mr. Hartman, was in the Panamint country and I have a few more beautiful specimens. Will photograph them and the burden Baskets you mention that you may judge of the designs, sizes and prices of them. Had I known you cared for a black Papago could have sent you one sometime ago. All black Baskets from these Indians are not particularly scarce as they make more than any other tribe, but the black Baskets of the Pomo are difficult to secure. I have only two or three in stock at the present time. Also have a very rare Black Basket made by the Yokutah– Bottleneck shape and the entire design woven in with white quill. This is a rare ceremonial Basket, worth $50.00. I had two of these Baskets but have just received check from a Chicago Collector for one of them. I am sure the entire lot of Baskets sent you will be valuable addition to your collection as many of them are scarce specimens. Very truly yours, Grace Nicholson
