Letter from Grace Nicholson regarding baskets she had sent to Harry George for approval.
May 4th, 1909.
Mr. Harry L. George,
St Jopseh, Mo.
Dear Sir: -
Inclosed find details regarding the 19 Baskets you retained from the large number of Baskets sent you.
I also inclose bill for the Baskets, less 10% which is the very best price, and with the exception of a very few private Collectors I only give this discount to Museums. If you were to only keep a few Baskets this discount does not apply, as my expense was considerable on expressage both ways.
I am surprised that you did not retain all the Baskets until you received my letter inclosing list and prices on same.
I fear you will not be able to secure any Dwamish Indian Baskets as I sent you the only two I have, and I do not know of any others on the market and all of the Dwamish Basket makers are dead.
The Zuni Basket #57 was a typical and fine old specimen of Basket used by the Zunis to carry clay from which they make their pottery. These Baskets are very primitive and are very scarce and no better example could possibly be had’ It is almost impossible to get Snequally, Nesqually and Redwood Baskets. But if I should ever come across any other specimens should be glad to let you know of them.
The Baskets you have selected are all very good old specimens.
Trusting to hear from you soon, I am
Very truly yours,
Grace NicholsonSubject
