Letter from Alaska Bazaar to Harry George noting the baskets he ordered were sent via Wells Fargo Express.
Mr Henry L George
Room 201 Saxton Bank Building
St Joseph MO
Dear Sir
We are in receipt of your favour of the 29th aug[?] and as instructed have forwarded by Wells FArgo the Baskets you ordered and trust same will open up to your entire satisfaction.
Duty We have frequently tried to ship Baskets for our customers where same were intended for personal use only without paying duty, but in every instance duty has had to be paid. The only way to obtain them duty free is for the purchaser to carry them with him. We have consequently instructed our agent in Seattle to clear the baskets and to reforward them to you. This saves you brokerage fees and unless there is a custom house at St Joseph they would in any case be held at Seattle pending the duty being paid. We have included the duty in the invoice
