A letter on St. Joseph State Hospital letterhead from George Glore, Community Relations Coordinator to Richard Cameron, Secretary Buchanan County Historical Society. Dated January 30, 1976.Context
Dear Richard:
I appreciated the invitation to attend the meeting of the Buchanan County Historical Society on the 18th. I enjoyed the meeting and was interested in hearing of the plans for the future. I wish the Society much success in getting the building ready and operating at full capacity.
We are pleased that we have a vested interest in the Society with our display of hand-crafted furniture. I agree that the hospital is certainly part of the history of Buchanan County and the production of furniture here is an interesting bit of history.
I would appreciate it if in future media interviews, brochures, etc., you would make it clear to the public that the furniture is on loan to the Society from the St. Joseph State Hospital Psychiatric Museum. I have gotten several phone calls resulting from your interview on KKJO. I did not hear the interview, but several persons have inquired about why we had "given" the items to the society, and "how could we give state property to another agency."
I assured the parties calling that the furniture remained the property of St. Joseph State Hospital and was simply "on loan." I am enclosing a copy of the memo which we have on file for inventory purposes.
We are making some changes on the physical arrangement of our museum to facilitate the movement of traffic through the area. We are also adding a room that will contain only arts and crafts projects created by patients. When we are set up, I'll give you a call. You might like to see our "new room".Dimensions
