A 3-page handwritten letter to Harry L. George from Jennie Clinton discussing available baskets. It is on letterhead from "Mize Drug Co.," Vol II pg. 101L
Dear Sir:
I have your favor of 8/27" '08 and replying wish to say that I have 3 baskets
that have been made in the last year, by my old mother who is now about 86 years old.
These baskets are about 8 in. in diameter.
Also have 2 specimens of baskets which are 40 & 100 years old . These also are
about 8 in. in diameter and made by my mother long before the Modocs were taken
from Oregon. Of course the 100 year old basket was not made by my mother, but
was made by the Shasta Indians of California .
Have also a fine specimen of baskets the age of which is not known but was given to
me by an uncle who is now 90 yrs. old and he owned same about 25 years. This
particular basket is about a foot in diameter.
These baskets are very fine specimens of the work of the Historic Modoc& Shasta
Indians, Captain Jack's band etc. This makes six baskets in all that I have but can get
more by sending to the folks in Oregon & Calif . The new baskets are worth 2.00 ea.;
the 2 small sized old baskets at 3.00 to 3.50 ea. The larger old basket is worth 6.00
Less if you want all six.
Send me draft for $18.50 & I will send at once.
I also do all kinds of bead work, including Hand bags, Moccasins etc.
Yours
