The letter from Harry George to Ira C. Deaver requests details about the Modoc’s former homes in the far west. Vol II pg. 101K
Dear Sirs:
Several months ago while on the Pacific Coast I purchased in Portland, a plaque said to have been made by the Modoc Indians My understanding is the Modoc Indians were moved from the Pacific Coast by the Government and placed elsewhere. If you can give me some facts in regard to their former home in the far west, whether in Washington, Oregon, California or in an adjoining state I will be very much obliged to you. In your letter to me dated Aug. 26, you speak of the Modocs as being under the care of your agency, and give me the names of two full bloods from who information might be obtained concerning baskets. I will appreciate it very much if you will give this matter your prompt attention.
Yours very truly,Subject
