Letter from Harry George to Alaska Bazaar indicating the tribes which he has no items from and asking for information on which tribes and items he should add to his collection. Vol II pg. 6M
Dear Sirs:
Many thanks for yours of the 24th just received. Using your list of names I want to say I have in my collection specimens from all the Indian tribes with the exception of the following:
(see list)
I do not know that all of these would be necessary, therefor in writing to me
state which ????? which are not necessary to complete a collection. Of course, I understand there is quite
a difference in the different weaves of baskets throughout British Columbia and Alaska, but in some instance
they are very much alike and it would not be worth while to purchase them all. I would only be interested in
small, well made and old and authentic pieces. In other words I do not want baskets that have been made
for sale. I want baskets that have been made for use and represent the Indian making same thoroughly.
Go over the names on the above list and let me know what you can supply of the same, and if those that
I have would answer. I do not believe I need all that your list calls for only small, compact pieces would be
considered , except in extreme cases where some cannot be had. After I have received this list from you
I will type up and answer your letter if July 24th in which other names and sizes of some baskets are given.
Yours very truly,Subject
