Description

Vol II pg. 56B Letter from John Lee Clarke to Harry George regarding possible sale of Navajo blankets. Mch. 15, 1912. Mr. Harry L. George, St. Joseph, Mo. Dear Sir, – It has just occurred to us that some of the officers of your Company, or some of the employes, might be interested in getting a Navajo Blanket at low cost. We are retiring from the retail business and are selling off our accumulated stock at lower figures than these goods ever sold for before. In getting a Navajo Blanket from us you know it’s genuine, and the price will be half or less than half what it would cost if sold elsewhere. Here is an illustrated circular showing some of the patterns. This is a list that we have gotten out to send to retail customers, giving them the benefit of this sale, To you, however, we will sell the blankets at 40% off the regular price. We will send an assortment of from 10 to 20 pieces, including all sizes and patterns, no two alike, ranging in price from $3.00 to $20.00 net. You are under no obligation to buy anything, but must agree to pay the freight from Albuquerque to your city. We will pay the freight charges back, and in addition thereto, providing more than half the blankets are sold, you can deduct the freight charges that you have paid. If there is anything to be sent back we want you to send it back within 10 days after receipt, packing the goods carefully in burlaps with heavy paper inside. This proposition is absolutely unique, and could not be made by a firm in the regular course of business. Hand this letter to some of your officers; show them the circular; explain to them that a Navajo Blanket is really better than an oriental in many ways, and then if you see any prospects of selling a few just send us the enclosed postcard and we will do the rest. Very truly yours, John Lee Clarke
