Description

Three page handwritten letter from Grace Nicholson to Harry George describing her travels among Native tribes and baskets she hoped to collect. Vol II pg. 49A June 21, 1911 Mr. Harry L. George 201 Saxton Bank Bldg. St Joseph, Missouri Dear Sir, Your letter of June 5th just reached me at this point. As usual I am off on my summer collecting trip. With reference to the Karuk Indian work I can furnish you excellent specimens of the various weaves - and anticipate another trip among them in a few weeks. If I find any thing of special interest will save it for you, and send it as soon as I return from my trip. I have 2 or 3 old specimens of Cartamon in stock, at home. So far as I know do not believe anyone else has any of these rare old Baskets - as I have made a special study of the “old mission” Baskets from S. F. to [Ian Dregs?] For years have secured every specimen available. Will also have some specimens of Cayuse Basketry. You will hear from me immediately upon my return with a bundle of Baskets on selection. Within two days times will be in the Yale + Chilcotin country. Very truly Grace Nicholson
