Dear "Sonny":
I wish to thank you for the time you so graciously gave me last Saturday even though you were so harrassed by your public duties. Our short visit was very enjoyable and I wish I would have had more time so that I could learn more about grapes and vines from a master.
As I told you, I have been unable to find any Cynthiana . . . Grapes for my new vineyard that I am planting this year. Also, I had not been able to locate any Missouri Reisling until recently when I received promise of 10 vines from the West Hill Nursery . . .
If you would be so kind as to put a few clods on some good strong runners so that could have 10 to 12 rooted slips this fall, I certainly will come and pay you a visit, . . .
As I told you, I am trying to grow the grapes that will produce here in Northwest Missouri on Loess soil and to make a small amount of varietal wine from each kind. To my knowledge no one has done that around here although the old Rueggsegger Winery . . . , did make a wine from the Virginia Seedling . . . ; however these have all been plowed under many years ago. They also made a wine from locally raised Elvira Grapes. These are the only two types of grapes that wine has been produces from n Northwest Missouri other than the Concord varieties, to my knowledge.
Thanks again for your courtesies and I will be looking forward to a visit with you this fall.
Sincerely,
SincerelyLexicon
