A 3-page handwritten letter and 2 pages of illustrations of items available for sale sent to Harry George from Ralph Meyers. Vol II pg. 101F
Dear Sir,
Your kind letter of the 25 is received and according to your suggestion I am sending you some illustrations of the things I have for sale, although I know photos would be better
than the drawing, I have made I think these will be equally descriptive and to save time
and and expense will let it go at that . If you are interested in genuine old articles you
will find the drum very desirable. These drums were supposed to be made about 100
years ago during the first settlement of Taos by the Mexicans. They were made from
hollow pine logs nicely dressed down to form a very thin barrel shape and the hide, said
II
to Buffalo stretched over it on both ends. the lacing is very nicely done, the drum stands about 30" high and about 15 in. in diameter. It is from use and hanging in an smoky
eshifa quite black or very dark brown. It has a very good sound and we can often hear
them over three miles. This kind of drum is scarce few being for sale. Some still held
by the Indians and a few in Museums. The dress is very handsome being white clay
tan of the Arapahoe Indians. and is as soft as velvet.
I also have one good Eagle feather warbonnets with Buffalo horns on the head . Made
of wing feathers and long spine down the back this ?????? cheap at 10.00 Also have
quite a bit of small headwork polishing stones, black painted Santa Clara
pottery . Sioux pipe bags nicely beaded at 5.00 pipe bone breast plate crown warbonnets One very old Kiowa medicine war fetish and post card photograph news from the Pueblo and Apache Indians. Also a nice line of Navajo blankets. If you are further interested I will be pleased to advise you upon any thing and skip any article outside of Blankets to you for inspection. Hoping to serve you in the future.
Yours Truly,
Please don't confuse the drum with the cheap imitations offered by some dealers. such as those made of modern cheese boxes and artificially aged.
