Dear Sir:-
You may remember that the appropriation for salaries for officers of State Lunatic Asylum No. 2, for the two years, 1891 -2, was placed at $18,000.00, being $2,00.00 less than heretofore.
I understand that the reduction was made because of the appropriation for the hospital fund. Our Board of Managers were therefore obliged to cut down the salaries of all the officers, which was something of a hardship, to some of them at least. So far, we have not had to call for a dollar from the $38,000.00 appropriation by the State for the support of the Asylum. Not that the amounts received last year from the counties and pay patients were sufficient to support the institution entirely for the year 1891, but as the bills for December were not paid until January 1892, (they were about $8,000.00) so that if we do as well this year we, will not use one half of the $38,000.00.
In view of this fact can you request the Extra Session of the Legislature to transfer from the support fund, $2,000.00 to the salary fund? I think this should be done in justice to the officers of the Institution.
Yours Truly,Dimensions
