Description

Letter from F. W. Bohle to Harry L. George discussing photographs of Indian materials, and requesting information on a collection. Yellowed page is original of page 1. Vol. I, pg. 30m Dear Sir: Many thanks for your kind letter of Dec. 13th. I assure you it was a treat and great pleasure to look over the "18" photographs you so kindly sent me - again you may feel or assume I shall always be interested in Indian Material when I tell you it took us over two hours to study the photographs in general. Your photographs are excellent and especially sharp in details. Besides U. S. Indian Material in Basketry I notice a Mexican and another foreign Basket in photograph as indicated! Have made a few notes and ask you kindly to answer same whenever convenient to you. Your Alaska Collection is to be admired and enough Material to fill a Museum. Speaking of Alaska Curios, a friend of mine has 2 very old medicine man's Deer teeth Belt's One is made of 145 while the other is made of 264 Deer teeth sets. Indeed very fine old pieces (from San Francisco Museum) and they are valued at about 35.00 or 40.00 a piece. #2 Shall gladly let you have all Baskets you may select in case I break or sell collection; and regret to say there are many good old pieces in collection which I did not photograph. Indeed I shall very much appreciate if you write Mr. Gutman a few lines. I will address him and quote 125 Baskets at 10.00 a piece. In this case however it would not do for me to send Mr Gutman the photographs I mailed you as you will surely decide on choice Baskets. However I will mail Mr. Gutman a copy of photograph I enclose herewith. I think this photograph will give Mr. Gutman a general idea of what Baskets I have on hand. In quoting 125 Baskets would leave me 25 Baskets; from these 25 you could make your selection, the balance I would gladly keep for myself. Am returning your Photographs by regisMr. Gutmantered mail and thank you again very much having forwarded same to me. Kindly acknowledge receipt of this letter & photos returned. Yours very truly,
