Letter from A.A. Bear to Harry George describing the different kinds of baskets made by the individuals under his care.
Dear Sir:
Your letter of inquiry concerning baskets by the Indians on this Reservation was received.
In reply would say that there are two kinds of baskets made here Ariz, what is called the butter
bowl of this shape (drawn shape) and the waste paper of this (drawn shape). The butter bowl is from three to six inches deep and from 6 to 24 inches in diameter. The prices vary from good weave
and figure from$1.25 to $8. plus the postage. The waste paper range from usually from 9 inches to 24 inches in height and of proportionate diameter. Prices range from four to thirty five dollars plus postage. As a matter of course, baskets of almost any size and price may be secured upon special order. A fair average price for butter bowls is about $3.50 and $16.50 or perhaps $15.00 for waste paper.
I trust that this may be satisfactory.
Yours truly,Subject
