Letter from C.H. Asbury to Harry George noting names of several individuals who can provide baskets. It is on letterhead from the Department Of The Interior, United States Indian Service
Dear Sir,-
I am in receipt of your letter of the 9th and respectfully reply as follows:
The Indian tributary to this office are not much given to basket work. The Paiutes of the Walker River Reservation make some very common baskets among which is a good many water jugs. If you desire to buy from them I would suggest you write to our Field Matron Mary K. Gill, Schurz, Nevada. Some of the Indians of Inyo Co., Calif., who are tributary to this office make very good baskets. A person most familiar with the and who could give you best service in securing samples, is Mrs. Minnie C. Randolph, of Bishop, Calif. The Washoes of this immediate locality make a few very fine baskets and you can get samples at any price you want to pay from $3.00 up to $1500 per basket I would suggest you write to A. Cohn, Carson Nevada., who handles a great many Indian baskets and is in a position to give you better service in that line than any one in this community.
Very respectfully,
C. H. Asbury
