1: Zanesville July 20th 1862 My Dear Son the Governor of Ohio has just issued his proclamation authorizing the enlistment of 4000 volunteers to the quota of our state to the 300,000 additional troops recently called for by the president The proclamation of the Governor suggested to me the idea that you might possibly be detailed and sent here on recruting service I am not certain whether the 300 m will all be formed into our regiments or whether regiments now in the som… will be permitted to formed into new regiments or weather Regiments now in the service will be permitted to fill up their ranks If such permission has not already ben granted I have no doubt it will be done. and if Col Wright should send any recruiting officers to this state he could not do better than to send you to this region and that he could be easily persuaded to send you. Would it not be well for you to inquire and
