Zanesville July 13th 61 My Dear son Your valued latter of the 2nd mss came safely to hand in the course of mail I am glad my selection of a soft hat has pleased you and that my recollection of the circumference of your cranium was so accurate. I was under the necessity of making my selection in great haste having but a few minutes to collect the various articles together and make up the package. I might have suited you better perhaps if I had more time. I would have sent you a dark hat had you not specifically designated blue 16. I hope the package sent you by Ed Hall may reach you as expediently and safely as that forwarded you by Wm McCarthey. Mr M.C. brought his son George home with him and he is recovering rapidly
