Dear Sir,
Replying to your inquiry of the 9th instant relative to these Indians being basket makers, will say that some of them make a good many baskets. They make them of cane and of splints. The cane baskets are the better ones.
There s but one tribe of Indians here - the Eastern Cherokees.
